Children and Type 2 Diabetes

ifteen percent of children and teens today are overweight, which is a three-fold increase since 1980. In the last twenty years the incidence of diabetes in children has increased ten-fold. It is believed that, by changing the foods chosen and by changing activity levels, we may prevent and in some cases reverse diabetes, or at least decrease the need for medication or insulin.

We are here to guide your child and your family in making changes in eating and lifestyle that will allow you to:

  • Understand what diabetes is and how it affects your health, life-expectancy, and quality of life;

  • Make the best choices in food;

  • Maintain appropriate blood sugar control;

  • Lose weight, possibly reversing or avoiding development of diabetes.

We also provide seminars for school Food Purchasing and Food Service Staff to train them to decrease sugar, saturated fat, and calorie content of school breakfasts and lunches.
