t drop cap he incidence of obesity is reaching epidemic proportions. Two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, twice as many as three decades ago. Obesity is expected to surpass tobacco as the number one cause of preventable death in this country. The annual cost of obesity is estimated at more than $117 billion. We know that obesity increases the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke, asthma, and osteoarthritis.

But why is America 's waistline expanding so fast? Some blame intensive marketing of candy and fast food. Others blame decreased physical activity due to advancing technology, computers, and television, or larger portion sizes, and the ease and low cost of fast food. But how do we address these issues?

At Renaissance Nutrition Center, Inc., we believe in carefully examining the causes of weight gain, rather than merely addressing the symptom. Obesity can be the symptom, the cause, or the result of many other problems. Our intention is to help you resolve the underlying issue as well as the weight issue. The truth is that the cause is different for everyone. We want to help you address all of the physical and behavioral factors that lead to being overweight. We provide sane nutritional advice to achieve weight loss and to create life-long healthy habits. We do not do diets, as diets are a short-term solution to a long-term problem, and ultimately do not work. We do believe in mindful eating, structure, and support.

While we believe strongly in prevention as a tool for fighting this epidemic, we believe there is more to the problem than poor food choices.
