What happens during an appointment?

This may vary by your needs. Generally the first step is assessment. Your dietitian will ask many questions about your food history, as well as your medical and nutritional history. You will discuss your current eating habits, lifestyle, and food preferences. You may talk about previous food problems, interventions, successes, and failures. Then you will begin to set realistic goals.

Considering all these factors, your dietitian will help you create an individualized food plan, adjusted to your nutrient needs, medical conditions, goals, and lifestyle.

Now the real work begins as your dietitian helps you strategize the process of implementing your food plan and reaching your goals. You may be asked to keep records of the foods you eat, and of other behaviors, to help your progress. In subsequent sessions your dietitian may change the food plan to make it more comfortable or to teach you strategies and tools for following it more easily.

Good nutrition is a lifetime process. Your dietitian will be ready to help you at any point to solve a new problem, resolve a concern, or find a new way to stay healthy in your lifestyle.

How do I make an appointment?

Please make your appointment with our secretary, Lisa Estock. She is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time.

Sessions vary by length; your first session may be 60-90 minutes long. This will provide time for our assessment of your medical and nutritional status and the creation of an individualized food plan with recommendations for how to work with it. In subsequent sessions, you will receive help with implementing the food plan and be taught skills and strategies that will help you create long-term success.

How long will I wait for an appointment?

You may wait anywhere from one week to three months for your first appointment. We have a cancellation list, and will notify you and advance your appointment if there is an appropriate cancellation.

How many sessions do I need?

Our sessions and programs are individualized and personalized to your needs. Some people may need only a few sessions, but most choose to come regularly for a few months, to complete the process of lifestyle change. Your sessions can be adjusted to your needs; clients are always welcome to return after months or years when their life situation changes.

When is payment expected?

Payment is expected at the time of service; we do not provide billing services. You may pay by check, Master Card, VISA, or cash. The fee for checks returned from the bank is $30. If your check is returned by the bank for any reason, we will return it to you; you are expected to pay both the fee for your session and the $30 returned check charge.

If you have a phone session, you may use a credit card for your session. Our clients cover the whole United States; many are seen only in phone sessions.

Do you accept insurance?

We are participating providers with AETNA US Healthcare. If your session is covered, you will pay only the specialist fee. Some AETNA plans require a referral for nutrition counseling, others do not. If a referral is needed for your AETNA plan, we must have that referral by the time of your appointment. If we do not receive the referral by the time of your appointment, you will be expected to pay in full for your session. If you are unsure of your status, you are welcome to call the office and fax us a copy of your card.

We are not participating providers with any other health care plans, although some plans may reimburse you for our services. Please call your physician or insurance provider for clarification.

How does a phone consultation work?

If you live too far away to come into the office for your session, or if the weather is too inclement for travel, you may do a phone session. Simply let us know in advance, then call our office at the time of your scheduled appointment. You may use Master Card or VISA to pay for your session. Materials that would have been given to you will be mailed.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

You may change or cancel any appointment by calling our office at (610) 275-3699. If no one is available to answer your call, you may leave us a message. Making an appointment reserves your dietitian's time exclusively for you. If you do not appear or call for your scheduled appointment, or do not cancel 24 hours in advance, you will be expected to pay the full fee for the time reserved for you.

What if I have questions after my session?

If you find that you are having real difficulty between sessions, you can call our office and ask to schedule an emergency session. We will fit you in as quickly as possible.
